Os8088 has launched as a new operating system that brings a Mac-style graphical user interface (GUI) to legacy IBM PC hardware. The project enables a modern desktop experience on machines from the early 1980s, specifically targeting the IBM XT, 286, and 386.

Built for extreme efficiency, the system utilizes a 512-byte boot sector to load its kernel and supports FAT12 floppy disks for file storage. Technically, the OS is distinguished by its multitasking capabilities and a pre-emptive scheduler, though it includes a toggle for users who prefer cooperative mode. The release includes a comprehensive suite of built-in applications: ArtfulType for Markdown writing, a MOD player called Tracker, a BMP and GIF editor named Paint, and a Mandelbrot explorer called Fractal. Released by VisiCorp in the early 1980s, Visi On was one of the first commercial attempts to bring a GUI to the IBM PC, though it struggled to gain the same foothold as the Macintosh or later versions of Windows.
