Progress Software Debuts Agentic UI Tools for Telerik and Kendo UI

Progress Software has launched an AI-driven update for its Telerik and Kendo UI component suites, introducing "agent-ready" application development capabilities. The release marks a strategic shift toward Agentic UI, where software interfaces are designed to be navigated and manipulated by autonomous AI agents as well as human users.

At the center of the update is the introduction of WebMCP (Model Context Protocol) in preview. This protocol allows AI agents to interact more effectively with UI components, providing a standardized way for models to understand and operate the interface. WebMCP support is currently available for Kendo UI for Angular, KendoReact, and Telerik UI for Blazor. To facilitate this interaction, the company has released a Telerik & Kendo UI browser extension that embeds a chat interface directly into pages that expose WebMCP tools.

For years, the primary role of AI in software development has been "AI-assisted coding," where tools help developers write syntax more quickly. Progress Software is now pivoting toward "AI-ready applications." This evolution is supported by the new Agentic UI Generator, which enables developers to generate production-ready components or entire page layouts using plain-language prompts.
