Progress Software pivots Telerik and Kendo UI toward 'agent-ready' design

Progress Software has launched a major update to its Telerik and Kendo UI developer toolsets, shifting its strategy from AI-assisted coding toward the creation of "agent-ready" applications. The release introduces a suite of tools designed to ensure software interfaces are architected for interaction by both human users and autonomous AI agents.
Central to the update is the launch of WebMCP, a technology that enables AI agents to interact directly with application interfaces. According to company documentation, this approach replaces fragile screen-scraping methods with a more stable, standardized interaction layer. Alongside this, Progress introduced the Agentic UI Generator, which allows developers to create enterprise-grade page layouts using natural language prompts while embedding accessibility standards directly at the component level.
The shift to agentic infrastructure
This release signals a broader strategic move by Progress Software to position itself as a leader in AI infrastructure. Rather than focusing solely on integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) to help developers write code, the company is prioritizing "agentic" software. In this model, applications are natively designed to be operated by AI agents via protocols like the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and the development lifecycle itself is increasingly managed by AI agents.
Loren Jarrett, EVP and GM of Digital Experience at Progress Software, stated that engineering leaders must now enable their teams to both scale productivity through AI and increase the production of these agentic applications.

The transition toward agent-ready UIs marks a fundamental change in software design, where the primary user of an interface may no longer be a human. By providing a standardized method for agents to navigate UIs through WebMCP and automating the generation of those interfaces, Progress is attempting to establish a blueprint for the next generation of enterprise software that is natively compatible with the agentic AI ecosystem.
Beyond the UI layer, the update includes several technical enhancements to the developer workflow. These include AI-driven debugging via Fiddler Agent Skills, automated modernization capabilities for legacy WinForms applications, and the integration of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) capabilities specifically for .NET applications.
