YC-backed Risklytics launches insurance brokerage for frontier tech
The startup uses AI to bridge the gap between autonomous systems and traditional commercial insurance policies.
Risklytics has launched a specialized insurance brokerage designed to provide coverage for frontier tech companies deploying AI agents and robotics. The Y Combinator S26-backed startup aims to solve the misalignment between legacy insurance policies and the unique risk profiles of autonomous systems.
Founded by Sam Gold and Alex Risio, Risklytics focuses on businesses operating in high-risk technical domains, including drones, satellites, and autonomous systems. To streamline the onboarding process, the company employs AI to translate plain-English business descriptions into formal draft insurance applications. These drafts are then reviewed and placed by licensed brokers with carriers that possess a specific appetite for high-tech risk.
The Coverage Gap
Traditional commercial insurance policies were largely drafted before the widespread emergence of field robotics and autonomous AI agents. This temporal gap often results in significant coverage holes or exclusions that only become apparent after a loss has occurred. By acting as a specialized intermediary, Risklytics seeks to ensure that the technical nature of frontier technology is accurately communicated to underwriters, reducing the likelihood of hidden exclusions.
Industry Implications
As artificial intelligence transitions from software-only applications to physical labor—such as robotics and autonomous hardware—the risk profile for these companies shifts fundamentally. Specialized brokerage becomes a critical infrastructure component to prevent frontier companies from being under-insured. Without precise coverage, a single hardware failure or AI-driven error could potentially bankrupt a startup if their policy contains exclusions for autonomous operations.
Available Protections
Risklytics offers a comprehensive suite of coverage lines to address these diverse risks. These include General Liability, Professional Liability (Tech E&O), and Cyber Liability, as well as D&O, Commercial Property, and Workers' Compensation. The brokerage also provides Equipment (Inland Marine) and Umbrella coverage to protect high-value hardware and provide additional liability layers for complex deployments.
