Nvidia has agreed to provide up to $105 billion in financial backing and credit guarantees for a massive AI data center campus in Ohio. The project, which will be leased exclusively by OpenAI, marks a significant shift in how AI infrastructure is funded and scaled.
The campus will be located at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Pike County, Ohio, situated on the grounds of a former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant used for uranium enrichment during the Cold War. Developed by SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank, the project is estimated to cost as much as $500 billion. The initial footprint of the facility will cover 4.25 gigawatts of computing infrastructure, though plans include options to expand the total capacity to 10 gigawatts. To support this immense power requirement, AEP Ohio has committed approximately $4.2 billion to upgrade the regional electrical grid.
