Enterprise Cloud Spending Hits $143 Billion as GenAI Fuels Record Growth

Enterprise cloud infrastructure spending reached $143 billion in Q2 2026, a $43 billion year-on-year increase and the 11th consecutive quarter of accelerating growth rates, according to Synergy Research Group.

AI Ignites Cloud Boom

Generative AI has become the primary catalyst, with AI-specific cloud services growing 165% year-over-year. The market has doubled in size over the past 11 quarters.

"AI technology has lit a fire under the cloud market and is now driving unprecedented growth," said John Dinsdale, chief analyst at Synergy Research Group.

Hyperscalers Hold the Lead

Amazon maintains market leadership with 28% share, followed by Microsoft at 20% and Google at 15%. Tier-two providers are outpacing the giants in growth rate: CoreWeave, OpenAI, Oracle, Crusoe, Nebius, Anthropic, and Nscale all posted high growth as specialized AI infrastructure demand surges.

US Leads Regional Expansion

The US market grew 49% in Q2 2026, exceeding the worldwide average. Other regions posting above-average growth include India, Indonesia, Ireland, Thailand, and Malaysia, reflecting global AI infrastructure buildout and regional data center investment patterns.

Sustained Momentum

The cloud market has accelerated over the past three years, with particular intensity in the last four quarters. Both hyperscale operators and "neoclouds"—specialized providers focused on AI workloads—are driving massive infrastructure buildout.

The data shows generative AI reshaping the tech economy beyond creating a new service category. AI is enhancing demand for existing cloud services, driving infrastructure investment at a pace unseen in industry history.

Q2 2026 figures represent the highest growth rate in eight years, signaling AI-driven cloud expansion shows no signs of slowing as enterprises continue migrating workloads and deploying generative AI applications at scale.
