NVIDIA Targets 2-Gigawatt AI Infrastructure Buildout in Australia by 2027
The chipmaker is partnering with eight local providers to deploy industrial-scale 'AI factories' across the region.
NVIDIA has launched a strategic collaboration with a consortium of eight Australian infrastructure providers to drastically scale the nation's AI compute capacity. The initiative aims to establish up to 2 gigawatts of power and shell capacity by 2027 to support the growing needs of local researchers, startups, and laboratories.
The partnership involves a network of NVIDIA Cloud Partners (NCPs) and data center specialists, including AirTrunk, NEXTDC, CDC, ResetData, Megaport, IREN, Sharon AI, and Firmus. Together, these firms will expand the land and power resources required to host multiple generations of NVIDIA DSX AI factories. According to NVIDIA, this buildout is designed to meet surging demand for high-performance compute resources within the Australian ecosystem.
The Shift to AI Factories
This expansion reflects a fundamental shift in how NVIDIA views data center architecture. Rather than treating these facilities as traditional server hubs, the company is framing them as "AI factories."
