Lucid Gravity Showcases V2V Charging with Tesla Model 3
The luxury SUV uses its RangeXchange system to act as a mobile power source for other electric vehicles.
A Lucid Gravity SUV recently demonstrated its vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) capability by charging a Tesla Model 3, proving the SUV can serve as a mobile power source. This interoperability between competing brands was enabled by the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector.
Using a proprietary bidirectional charging system called "RangeXchange," the Lucid Gravity transfers energy directly to another electric vehicle. Technical specifications indicate the Gravity supports bidirectional charging up to 80 A at 19.2 kW via its NACS charge port. Lucid Motors reports that the RangeXchange system can add between 24 and 40 miles of range per hour to the receiving vehicle.
The Rise of Bidirectional Power
Bidirectional charging is an emerging trend in the EV industry, encompassing Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) applications. While several manufacturers are exploring these technologies, Lucid has integrated RangeXchange into its broader ecosystem. Because the Gravity features a native NACS port, it removes the need for the adapters previously required by the Lucid Air when connecting to non-NACS vehicles.
