Mercedes-AMG GT 53 EV Targets 500-Mile Range for Long-Distance Touring

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the GT 53, a dual-motor electric version of its GT 4-Door Coupe designed for long-distance touring. Scheduled for release in early 2027, the model marks a strategic shift for the brand by prioritizing efficiency and range over the extreme performance of its top-tier electric offerings.
The GT 53 produces 536 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. This powertrain allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds from a standstill, or 3.4 seconds when utilizing a one-foot rollout. To maximize efficiency, the car employs a two-speed transmission on the rear motor and a mechanical disconnect unit for the front motor.
Engineering for Endurance
The GT 53 is positioned as the entry-level model in a new electric lineup for the AMG GT 4-Door. While higher-trim models utilize axial-flux motors to achieve track-ready performance, the GT 53 uses permanently excited synchronous motors. This hardware choice reflects a target buyer profile more focused on daily usability and touring than peak circuit speeds.
Power is supplied by a 106-kWh battery, which enables a preliminary WLTP range of up to 503 miles (809 km). The vehicle also supports a peak charging rate of 600 kW, which can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes.
Market Implications
This release demonstrates Mercedes-AMG's intent to diversify its EV performance portfolio. By trading the extreme specifications of flagship models for a 500-plus mile range, AMG is positioning the GT 53 as a viable high-performance daily driver.
