Schneider Electric has launched the Charge Home EV charger, a residential solution designed to compete with Tesla’s Wall Connector by integrating critical power-management hardware. The move targets a primary pain point in home electrification: the risk of overloading residential electrical panels during high-power charging sessions.

The Charge Home charger distinguishes itself by bundling dynamic load balancing hardware directly in the box. This integration allows the charger to monitor a home's total power consumption in real-time and automatically throttle its output to prevent the main breaker from tripping. In contrast, the Tesla Wall Connector requires the purchase and installation of additional external hardware, such as the Tesla Remote Meter, to implement similar dynamic load management and avoid costly electrical service upgrades.

The Challenge of Home Power

Home EV charging often puts significant strain on residential electrical panels, which were not originally designed for the high continuous loads required by fast chargers. Load balancing, or load management, solves this by acting as a safety valve. By monitoring the total electrical draw of the household, the system ensures that the EV charger only uses the available headroom.
