The software, deployed on July 21 via version 2026.20.6.11 (FSD v14.3.6), is allegedly pushing older vehicle hardware beyond its thermal capacity, leading to forced system disengagements and permanent hardware failure.

According to reports from Electrek and Not a Tesla App, the Autopilot ECU triggers a specific thermal fault—identified as APP_w141_ECU_Thermal_Issue—whenever temperatures exceed 90°C. Some users have seen the 'Start Self-Driving' button vanish entirely as the system attempts to protect itself from heat damage. While some independent reports cite temperatures in the 96-99°C range, X user @TexasTSLA warned others to be cautious, noting that their ECU hit a peak of 102°C (215°F). The Compute Gap
