Samsung Medison Launches HERA Z10 to Scale AI-Driven Prenatal Diagnostics
The new premium OB/GYN ultrasound system aims to reduce clinician fatigue by slashing scan times by up to 52%.
Samsung Medison has launched the HERA Z10, a premium OB/GYN ultrasound diagnostic system designed to expand high-end prenatal imaging to a broader range of clinical settings. The system completes the HERA Z Series alongside the flagship HERA Z20, integrating advanced AI workflows to improve diagnostic precision and operational efficiency.
Unveiled at the 34th ISUOG World Congress in London from September 4-7, 2024, the HERA Z10 inherits the AI-based workflow solutions and advanced beamforming technology of its larger sibling, the Z20. According to Samsung, the system's Live ViewAssist AI can reduce scan times during detailed mid-trimester ultrasound examinations by up to 52%. Additionally, the EzStructure tool minimizes manual manipulation for key measurement parameters by as much as 71%, while the FibroidVue AI feature automatically segments and measures the endometrium, uterus, and uterine fibroids.
The Shift Toward Precision Imaging
This launch arrives as healthcare providers face a global rise in maternal age and a corresponding increase in pregnancy-related complications. These trends have shifted clinical requirements from basic fetal evaluation toward a more holistic approach to maternal health. There is an increasing demand for precision imaging that can predict complications early and provide objective data for high-risk pregnancy management.
Addressing Clinician Burnout
By introducing a tiered premium lineup with both the Z10 and Z20, Samsung Medison allows healthcare institutions to scale their diagnostic capabilities based on the specific needs of their clinical environment. The integration of AI to handle repetitive measurements and streamline scanning protocols directly addresses clinician fatigue. By reducing the manual burden on sonographers, the system aims to increase the objectivity of diagnostics and allow providers to focus more on patient care than on manual data entry.
Future Outlook
Jihyun Kim, Head of the CX Team at Samsung Medison, stated that the HERA Z10 represents a milestone in extending the clinical value of the HERA Z Series to more healthcare settings. As AI continues to penetrate diagnostic imaging, the industry will be watching how these efficiency gains translate into improved patient outcomes in real-world clinical practice. While the core AI workflow is established, the long-term impact on diagnostic throughput in high-volume clinics remains the primary metric for success.
