Tecno Unveils 'Borderless' Camon Slim 5G with 0mm Bezels at IFA 2026
The concept phone eliminates the traditional black rim for a floating-screen effect, sparking debate over aesthetic pursuit versus practical utility.
Tecno has unveiled a "Borderless Concept" smartphone at IFA 2026 that achieves a true 0mm display bezel. The device, referred to as the Camon Slim 5G, removes the traditional black rim between the active screen and the outer frame to create a floating-screen effect.
The handset features a 6.78-inch panel where the borders are integrated directly into the aluminum frame. Under the hood, the Camon Slim 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300e processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. To support the display and hardware, Tecno equipped the device with a 6,000mAh battery, and the system runs on Android 16.
The Race to Zero
For years, the smartphone industry has been locked in a competition to shrink bezels and maximize screen-to-body ratios. Most modern "edge-to-edge" displays still retain a minuscule 1-2mm black boundary to protect the panel and provide a structural buffer. Tecno's latest concept represents the final escalation of this trend, attempting to erase that remaining visible boundary entirely.
Aesthetics vs. Utility
The device highlights a growing tension in mobile design between the drive for aesthetic perfection and practical user experience. While the 0mm bezel is an engineering feat, it removes the physical resting place for a user's thumbs. This design choice potentially increases the frequency of accidental touches, suggesting that the company has prioritized headline-grabbing engineering over meaningful improvements to battery longevity or charging speeds.
Critics have questioned the necessity of the design. Rita, a senior writer at Android Police, described the pursuit of borderless devices as a "fundamentally silly and stupid endeavor," arguing that most users do not notice the tiny black rims on existing phones unless they are actively searching for them.
What's Next
As a concept device, the Camon Slim 5G serves more as a showcase of technical capability than a mass-market product. It remains to be seen if Tecno will refine this borderless approach for a commercial release or if the practical drawbacks of accidental inputs will keep the 0mm bezel confined to the exhibition floor. Industry observers will be watching to see if other manufacturers follow suit in the pursuit of a completely bezel-free interface.
