Brotherwise Games Opens Preorders for Mistborn Cosmere RPG Expansion
The upcoming expansion brings the metallic arts of Scadrial to the tabletop with a November 2026 release.
Brotherwise Games and author Brandon Sanderson have launched Amazon preorders for the Mistborn expansion to the Cosmere Roleplaying Game. The release marks a significant expansion of the tabletop system's scope, moving beyond its initial focus on the world of Roshar.
Scheduled for release on November 4, 2026, the expansion package consists of three primary components: the Mistborn Handbook, a dedicated Campaign Guide, and a 24-page "Welcome to Scadriel" visual guide designed for beginners. According to official materials, the expansion enables players to run campaigns across two distinct time periods of the Scadrial setting, known as Era 1 and Era 2. To accommodate these different settings, campaigns are tiered by level, with Era 1 designed for levels 3-6 and Era 2 spanning levels 3-9.
Expanding the Cosmere Universe
The Cosmere RPG is an original tabletop system developed by Brotherwise Games based on Sanderson's interconnected fictional universe. The game first launched in 2025, centering its initial mechanics and lore on The Stormlight Archive. This new addition is part of a broader strategic roadmap to eventually provide tabletop support for the entire Cosmere. While this is the latest attempt to bring Mistborn to the tabletop—following a 2012 Adventure Game by Crafty Games and a more recent deckbuilding title from Brotherwise—it represents the most comprehensive integration into the core RPG system to date.
New Mechanics and Implications
The introduction of Scadrial brings entirely new gameplay mechanics to the table. The Mistborn Handbook provides the specific rules for the metallic arts of Allomancy and Feruchemy, which are distinct from the abilities used by characters in the Stormlight Archive. By supporting two different eras of the same world, the expansion allows for complex, multi-generational storytelling and introduces a different flavor of magic to the game's existing framework.
Writing for IGN, Scott White noted that the system's initial offerings on Roshar provided a "strong first go" for the TTRPG, highlighting a focus on flexible character development and narrative mechanics that stand out among its peers. The addition of the Mistborn setting is expected to broaden the game's appeal by incorporating one of the most popular pillars of Sanderson's literary work.
What to Watch
As the November 2026 release date approaches, players will be looking for further details on how the different magic systems interact within the same engine. While the core components of the expansion are confirmed, the exact specifications of the Mistborn Handbook have seen slight variations among retailers, with page counts listed between 405 and 410 pages. Future updates are expected as Brotherwise Games continues to build out the rest of the Cosmere universe.
