Gatik Raises $200 Million Series D to Scale Driverless Middle-Mile Freight
The autonomous trucking firm is expanding its regional logistics network for Fortune 50 retail and consumer goods supply chains.
Gatik AI Inc. has raised $200 million in Series D funding to accelerate the deployment of driverless commercial freight. The investment marks a significant shift for the company as it scales autonomous technology across the supply chains of Fortune 50 retail, grocery, and consumer packaged goods firms.
The funding round was led by the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Koch Disruptive Technologies (KDT). Gatik has already completed 85,000 fully driverless orders and maintains a 99% on-time delivery rate. This operational momentum is reflected in the company's financials, with Gatik reporting more than $600 million in contracted revenue. Its current client roster includes major industry players such as PepsiCo, Kroger, Tyson Foods, and Georgia-Pacific.
The Middle-Mile Strategy
Unlike many autonomous vehicle companies that target long-haul interstate trucking, Gatik specializes in "middle-mile" logistics. This approach focuses on short-haul, repetitive regional routes that connect distribution centers directly to stores. By limiting the operational domain to these high-frequency links, the company maintains more predictable operations within complex commercial networks.
This strategy is already in practice through a multi-year strategic partnership with PepsiCo. Initiated in 2022, the collaboration has expanded its footprint across Texas, Arizona, and Arkansas, proving the viability of the regional model in diverse geographic markets.
Industry Implications
The infusion of capital signals strong investor confidence in the commercial viability of autonomous freight. For the broader logistics industry, this represents a transition where autonomy moves from a theoretical technology to a scalable operational tool. By targeting the specific bottlenecks between warehouses and retail outlets, Gatik addresses the urgent demand for faster and more predictable product availability in the consumer supply chain.
Byron Knight, president of Koch Disruptive Technologies, noted that the current state of the industry shows autonomy moving beyond a promising technology into real-world commercial operations. Gautam Narang, co-founder and CEO of Gatik, described the funding round as a clear validation of the company's commercial leadership in the autonomous freight sector.
Future Outlook
With the new capital, Gatik intends to further integrate its driverless technology into the logistics frameworks of large-scale retail and grocery providers. As the company expands its footprint, the industry will monitor whether this middle-mile success can be replicated across more varied urban environments and whether other logistics providers will shift away from long-haul ambitions in favor of Gatik's regional focus.
