Robot.com and Sodexo Ink Seven-Year Deal to Scale Campus Delivery Robots
The partnership expands the deployment of R-Kiwi sidewalk robots across North American colleges to combat labor shortages.
Robot.com and Sodexo Group have entered into a seven-year commercial agreement to expand the deployment of autonomous sidewalk delivery robots across North American college campuses. The deal represents the largest single enterprise deployment in Robot.com's history and aims to mitigate operational labor shortages for Sodexo.
Under the agreement, the companies will scale the use of the R-Kiwi delivery robot, a platform that has already completed 2.4 million tasks across various city sidewalks and campus environments. To date, Robot.com has deployed more than 500 R-Kiwi units. The company is currently scaling its operational capacity, having generated 250,000 operational hours in the first half of this year, with a stated target of reaching one million hours annually.
The Campus Staging Ground
Founded in 2017, Robot.com (formerly Kiwibot) has focused on the specific challenges of autonomous sidewalk navigation. While some industry competitors have pivoted toward grocery delivery, Robot.com continues to prioritize college campuses. According to co-founder and CEO Felipe Chavez Cortes, campuses serve as an ideal staging environment because they provide an outdoor setting with pedestrian traffic that is less chaotic than dense urban centers.
This long-term commitment follows a partnership that began in 2021. Chavez Cortes noted that seven-year contracts are not immediate, describing the lead-up as a learning process for both organizations to determine how to implement robotics and create mutual value.
Solving the Economics of Delivery
To address the economic viability issues that often hinder sidewalk delivery services, Robot.com utilizes its "Remi" implementation platform. Remi integrates classical robotics and third-party software with advertising technology, creating additional revenue streams to improve the financial model of autonomous delivery.
This shift toward enterprise-scale, long-term contracts signals a maturing market for service robotics within the hospitality and food service sectors. By stabilizing the economics through advertising and specialized implementation intelligence, Robot.com is establishing a foundation for broader applications. The company is already expanding its hardware portfolio beyond the R-Kiwi to include the R-Dog quadruped and R-noid humanoid robots.
Future Outlook
As the deployment grows, the industry will be watching whether the integration of advertising revenue via the Remi platform can make sidewalk delivery truly sustainable at scale. While the current focus remains on the balanced complexity of campus environments, the data gathered from these deployments is expected to inform Robot.com's future industrial and humanoid robot initiatives.
