Indian engineering firm AXISCADES and French space company U-Space have signed a commercial cooperation agreement to target the growing microsatellite market in India. The partnership aims to deploy specialized small satellites for communication, remote sensing, and technology demonstration.
The deal was announced during the inaugural International Space Summit in Paris on September 9–10, 2026. Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will combine French space technology with India's industrial integration capabilities. This collaboration is specifically designed to align with the 'Make in India' framework, facilitating the localization of advanced satellite hardware and systems within the Indian domestic market.
A Shift Toward Private Space Commerce
Historically, space cooperation between India and France has been dominated by government-to-government relations, primarily led by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the National Centre for Space Studies (CNES). However, the International Space Summit in Paris signaled a decisive pivot toward private-sector involvement. The summit featured 51 separate announcements, representing approximately 20 billion euros in total contracts and investments.
Other significant private-sector deals announced at the event include a contract worth over 5 million euros between Safran Space and Dhruva Space for the SBS-III constellation, as well as a launch agreement between RIDE! and TakeMeToSpace. These agreements collectively reflect a broader trend of commercializing bilateral space ties.
