Alif Semiconductor has introduced the Balletto B1 StartKit (SK-B1), a development platform designed to simplify the prototyping of AI and machine learning workloads at the edge. The kit provides a streamlined entry point for engineers integrating wireless connectivity with hardware-accelerated intelligence.

The SK-B1 is built around the Balletto B1 microcontroller, which features a Cortex-M55 CPU core equipped with Helium-M Vector Extension. To handle intensive AI/ML tasks, the platform integrates an Ethos-U55 neural network processor (NPU). According to technical documentation from DigChip, this combination allows the device to execute complex neural network operations locally while maintaining the power efficiency required for edge deployment.

The Shift Toward Intelligent Wireless

Alif Semiconductor specializes in secure 32-bit microcontrollers that embed AI accelerators directly into the silicon. Its current product portfolio is divided into two primary lines: the Ensemble family, which serves as the foundation for AI MCUs, and the Balletto family. The Balletto series is specifically engineered to merge Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Matter support with AI/ML hardware optimization. This architecture is designed to meet the demands of the smart home and wireless audio sectors, where low latency and high efficiency are critical.

By focusing on the intersection of BLE and AI acceleration, Alif is addressing specific bottlenecks in the wireless audio and smart home markets. Reza Kazerounian, president and co-founder of Alif Semiconductor, stated that the Balletto family targets BLE challenges by providing a platform adapted for the Matter ecosystem and high bit-rate audio.
