AMD is reportedly developing a new mobile processor with 3D V-Cache technology for gaming laptops, according to a leak from Weibo account Golden Pig Upgrade Pack. The Ryzen 7 9800HX3D would feature 8 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.1 GHz boost clock, and 96MB of L3 cache, with mass production expected to begin in Q4 2026 and a likely announcement at CES 2027.

First 8-Core Mobile X3D Option

This would mark the first 8-core Fire Range mobile processor with X3D technology. Currently, the only mobile X3D option is the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D with 16 cores and 128MB cache, found in laptops starting at approximately $2,476 USD to 3,700+ euros depending on configuration and region.

The leak originates from Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, described by multiple outlets including ComputerBase as a reliable source with prior accurate predictions about AMD products. The desktop Ryzen 7 9800X3D has proven highly successful as a gaming processor, demonstrating the performance potential of AMD's 3D V-Cache stacking technology. An 8-core mobile variant would bring similar gaming-optimized cache architecture to a more accessible market segment.

The 96MB cache configuration could deliver significant gaming performance improvements comparable to desktop X3D processors. Gaming laptops currently lack mid-range X3D options, creating a potential opening for AMD in the gaming laptop space.

Production Timeline and Market Positioning

AMD currently offers only three Fire Range mobile processors, with the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D serving as the sole X3D option at the premium end. An 8-core mobile X3D chip would fill a notable gap in the product lineup between mainstream mobile processors and the flagship 16-core offering.
