Brewer Science Acquires Heraeus Epurio Semiconductor Chemicals Business
The Missouri-based supplier expands its domestic footprint with a new Ohio production facility to secure critical lithography materials.
Brewer Science, Inc. has acquired the semiconductor chemicals business line of Heraeus Epurio to strengthen its control over critical materials used in chip fabrication. The deal, agreed upon on June 18 and expected to close by July 31, integrates specialized chemical production and international support into the Brewer Science portfolio.
The acquisition includes a dedicated production facility located at 970 Industrial Park Drive in Vandalia, Ohio. Beyond the physical plant, the transaction encompasses related sales and support personnel based in Asia, ensuring the company maintains its global operational reach. The acquired business specializes in the production of ultrapure electronic chemicals, specifically photoacid generators, photo-initiators, monomers, and crosslinkers—all of which are essential components for advanced lithography processes.
Strengthening the Supply Chain
Based in Rolla, Missouri, Brewer Science has operated as a supplier to the microelectronics industry since 1981. Prior to this acquisition, Heraeus Epurio maintained a long-standing relationship with Brewer Science as a supplier. This transition comes at a time when the United States is aggressively seeking to bolster its domestic semiconductor supply chain. By reducing reliance on external sources for critical sub-tier materials, the industry aims to mitigate geopolitical risks and logistical vulnerabilities that have plagued the global chip market in recent years.
Strategic Vertical Integration
This move represents a significant vertical integration for Brewer Science. By bringing the production of ultrapure chemicals in-house, the company can more tightly control the quality and availability of high-performance materials required for advanced technology nodes. In the realm of chip fabrication, trace-metal contamination poses a critical risk to wafer yields; owning the production process allows Brewer Science to minimize these risks and improve overall reliability.
Sri Kommu, co-CEO of Brewer Science, noted that materials are becoming increasingly critical to the advanced semiconductor value chain and stated that the deal should improve the reliable global supply of these components.

As the transaction nears its July 31 closing date, the industry will be watching how Brewer Science integrates the Vandalia facility into its broader manufacturing strategy. The acquisition signals a broader trend of consolidation among materials suppliers as they race to support the next generation of smaller, more powerful semiconductors.
