Teradyne Revenue Surges 104% to $1.33 Billion on AI Compute Demand

The automated test equipment leader reports record Q2 results as AI data center expansion doubles semiconductor test revenue.

Teradyne reported record financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, driven by an unprecedented surge in AI-related infrastructure demand. The company's total revenue reached $1.33 billion, representing a 104% increase year-over-year.

Growth was anchored by the Semiconductor Test segment, which saw revenue climb 128% to $1.12 billion. This spike is attributed to intense demand for AI compute and memory testing. Specifically, memory test revenue exceeded $200 million for the third consecutive quarter, fueled by High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and DRAM requirements. Teradyne also reported non-GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.47. Beyond semiconductors, the Robotics segment grew 33% year-over-year to $100 million, marking its fifth straight quarter of sequential growth.

Strategic Pivot to AI Infrastructure

This performance signals a transition for Teradyne, moving from a cyclical semiconductor supplier to a direct beneficiary of the AI buildout. The company is expanding its operational reach from the wafer level to the data center rack. To capture this growth, Teradyne has integrated acquisitions such as MLTP and Quantifi Photonics, targeting advanced packaging and optical interconnects. This shift aligns with a broader industry trend where test equipment is currently expanding at a faster rate than chip-making equipment.

Market Implications and Financial Flexibility

These results suggest a fundamental reset in expectations for the automated test equipment (ATE) market. By diversifying revenue across AI accelerators, HBM, and robotics, Teradyne is reducing its historical reliance on the volatile mobile handset market. CEO Greg Smith noted that the strategy to capture opportunities from the wafer to the AI data center has driven the record quarter.

Furthermore, Teradyne maintains significant financial flexibility through its strategic investments. The company holds a 10% stake in Technoprobe S.p.A., which carries a book value of approximately $515 million but has a fair market value of $2.46 billion. This unrealized gain, combined with strong cash flow, positions the company to pursue further strategic acquisitions as the AI era matures.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Teradyne is positioning itself to capitalize on emerging technologies in data center connectivity. The co-packaged optics (CPO) test market alone is expected to be worth between $300 million and $700 million by 2028. Investors and industry analysts will likely monitor how effectively Teradyne converts this projected CPO demand into sustained revenue growth as AI hardware becomes increasingly complex.
