BMW Opens Early Orders for Neue Klasse i3 Sedan in Germany

BMW opened orders for the i3 50 xDrive Launch Edition in Germany on June 18, 2026, moving the timeline up several months ahead of the official autumn release. The decision follows strong demand and high early interest in the vehicle.
The i3 50 xDrive Launch Edition is priced at €75,340 in Germany. The base model 50 xDrive is scheduled to launch in late September 2026 with a starting price of €65,900. Jochen Goller, BMW's sales boss, stated that the high level of interest indicates the model will be very well received by customers.
The Neue Klasse Architecture
The i3 is the second model in BMW's "Neue Klasse" initiative, following the iX3 SUV. This new generation utilizes sixth-generation eDrive (Gen6) technology and introduces a distinct design language, highlighted by a 43-inch Panoramic Vision display. The shift represents a fundamental pivot in BMW's EV strategy, focusing on integrated software and hardware efficiency.
Performance and Charging Specs
To compete in the high-end luxury EV segment, BMW equipped the i3 with a 108.7 kWh battery. This provides a WLTP range of up to 566 miles (912 km) and an EPA-estimated range of approximately 400 miles.
Charging capabilities are a primary focus of the new architecture. The i3 features an 800V system allowing for 400 kW DC fast-charging, which BMW claims can add 250 miles of range in just 10 minutes. For the North American market, the vehicle includes a built-in NACS port to ensure compatibility with the Tesla charging standard.

The aggressive specifications and early order window signal BMW's intent to regain a competitive edge against both legacy luxury brands and domestic EV challengers, particularly in China.
