BYD Da Han Flagship EV Claims 1,008 km Range Ahead of Chengdu Debut

BYD has unveiled its most ambitious electric sedan yet. The Da Han (Great Han), a flagship EV in the company's Dynasty family, makes its official debut at the Chengdu Motor Show from August 21-30, 2026, with specifications targeting the luxury EV market's upper tier.

Range and Battery

The headline figure: 1,008 km on a single charge under China's CLTC testing cycle for the entry-level rear-wheel-drive variant. That range comes from a 102.326 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack using BYD's next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 technology. The battery assembly weighs 725.9 kg, according to released specifications.

BYD touts extreme fast-charging capability: using 1,500 kW charging technology, the Da Han replenishes from 10% to 70% state of charge in five minutes, or 10% to 97% in nine minutes. If verified in real-world conditions, those figures would surpass current benchmarks from competitors like the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air.

Dimensions and Positioning

At 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the Da Han slots into the D-segment flagship category. The sedan measures 66 mm longer than the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class, signaling BYD's intent to compete on both space and prestige.

The Da Han sits above the existing Han and Han L models and serves as the sedan counterpart to the Great Tang (DaTang) SUV. It represents BYD's push to establish credibility in the premium luxury segment, where brand perception has historically favored European and American incumbents.

Autonomous Driving Hardware

Official images confirm a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof, part of the DiPilot 5.0 assisted driving system. The inclusion of LiDAR places the Da Han among EVs betting on sensor fusion for higher levels of autonomy, though BYD has not detailed the system's full capabilities or rollout timeline.

What's Next

Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD's Dynasty series, said only that "more surprises await" at the Chengdu Motor Show. Pricing, trim levels, and market availability remain unannounced. The company has not specified whether the 1,008 km range figure applies to all variants or only the entry-level RWD configuration.

For now, the Da Han represents BYD's clearest statement of intent: leverage vertical integration, battery innovation, and aggressive specifications to disrupt the luxury EV segment on its home turf before expanding globally.
