Lectric eBikes Hits $1 Billion in Shopify Sales, Surpasses 750,000 Units Sold
The US electric bicycle leader reaches two major growth milestones while expanding into premium and high-power segments.
Lectric eBikes has reached two significant commercial milestones, recording $1 billion in sales via its Shopify e-commerce platform and surpassing 750,000 electric bicycles sold. The announcement, shared by co-founder and CEO Levi Conlow, underscores the company's ascent to becoming the largest electric bicycle manufacturer in the United States.
According to reports from Electrek, the $1 billion revenue figure specifically accounts for sales processed through the company's Shopify store. This total excludes additional revenue streams from other retail channels, such as Best Buy. The volume milestone of 750,000 units further cements the company's scale in a competitive hardware market.
A Bootstrapped Growth Strategy
Founded seven years ago as an apartment-based startup, Lectric was bootstrapped by co-founders Levi Conlow and Robby Deziel. By avoiding traditional venture capital, the company maintained a strict focus on a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model and affordability. This strategy gained significant momentum in 2019 with the launch of the Lectric XP, which entered the market at a price point of $899. Rather than increasing prices as they grew, the company leveraged its increasing scale to negotiate lower costs from suppliers, passing those savings to the consumer.
Market Implications and Diversification
These milestones demonstrate the scalability of the DTC model within the hardware sector and the viability of a "value-first" pricing strategy. By dominating the affordable segment, Lectric has built a massive user base that provides a foundation for broader market expansion. The company is now attempting to capture multiple market tiers to insulate itself from volatility in any single segment.
Future Expansion
Lectric is currently diversifying its portfolio beyond budget-friendly commuters. The company has acquired the Juiced Bikes brand and subsequently launched Juiced Powersports, focusing on high-power e-motos. Additionally, the company has introduced Monarc, a premium e-bike brand. Observers will be watching to see if Lectric can successfully translate its high-volume, low-cost success into these more specialized, higher-margin luxury and performance categories.
