Vietnamese EV Taxi Operator Green SM Launches in Copenhagen
The company debuts its first European service using a company-owned fleet of VinFast electric SUVs.
Vietnamese all-electric taxi operator Green SM has officially entered the European market with the launch of its service in Copenhagen, Denmark, on July 30, 2026. The move represents a strategic expansion for the company as it attempts to export its vertically integrated mobility model to Western Europe.
Deploying a fleet of VinFast VF 6 and VF 8 electric SUVs, Green SM distinguishes itself from ride-sharing giants like Uber by owning and managing its own vehicles and directly overseeing its drivers. To facilitate this rollout, VinFast exported approximately 1,500 VF 6 EVs to Europe. To attract early adopters, the company is offering new customers five vouchers for 25% off trips, capped at 100 DKK per ride, available through September 30, 2026.
A Vertically Integrated Strategy
Founded in 2023, Green SM is backed by the Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup. The company was established as part of a broader effort by Vingroup and VinFast to build a global electric mobility ecosystem. Unlike software-based marketplaces that rely on independent contractors, Green SM focuses on a managed experience where the company controls both the hardware and the service quality. This model has already been deployed across several markets, including Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Kazakhstan.
Testing the European Market
Choosing Copenhagen as its European gateway is a calculated move. The city is globally recognized for its commitment to sustainable urban mobility and aggressive carbon-reduction goals. By launching here, Green SM is testing whether its professionally managed, company-owned EV model can compete within the highly regulated environments of Western markets.
Richard Nabil Chahine, CEO of Green SM Europe, emphasized the city's importance to the strategy, stating that Copenhagen is one of the cities that shape the future of mobility, which is why beginning the European journey there carries special meaning for the company.
Future Outlook
If the Copenhagen pilot proves successful, the city will likely serve as a blueprint for further expansion across the continent. The scale of the initial vehicle export—1,500 units—suggests that VinFast and Green SM are preparing for more than just a boutique operation. Observers will now be watching to see how the managed-fleet model performs against established European taxi services and the flexibility of app-based competitors.
