Volkswagen Opens Pre-Orders for €25,000 ID. Polo EV After 25,000 Early Orders
The entry-level ID. Polo Trend undercuts rivals with a 37 kWh LFP battery as VW races to defend European market share.
Volkswagen has opened pre-orders for a more affordable version of its ID. Polo electric hatchback, launching a 37 kWh battery variant at €24,995 (approximately $29,000) in Europe. The move comes after the German automaker secured 25,000 orders for the larger-battery model within weeks of its April 2026 release.
Undercutting the Competition
The entry-level ID. Polo Trend trim positions VW directly against rivals like the Renault 5 and a growing wave of Chinese EV imports from brands including BYD and Chery. By pricing the electric supermini under the €25,000 threshold, Volkswagen targets budget-conscious city drivers who previously found EVs financially out of reach.
The 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery delivers a WLTP range of 200-207 miles (323-334 km), depending on trim and testing source. DC fast charging reaches 88-90 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 23 minutes.
Powertrain Options and Tech
Buyers can choose from three power outputs: 85 kW (114 hp), 99 kW (133 hp), and 155 kW (208 hp). A performance-oriented GTI variant producing 166 kW arrives in fall 2026.
Inside, the ID. Polo features a 10-inch Digital Cockpit instrument cluster paired with a 13-inch Innovision infotainment touchscreen, bringing VW's latest interface to the affordable segment.
Strategic Pivot to Affordable EVs
This launch represents more than a trim expansion. Volkswagen is aggressively restructuring its EV lineup around smaller batteries and lower price points to maintain dominance in the European market. The ID. Polo applies a legendary nameplate to a clean-sheet electric design, marking a critical breakthrough in VW's electrification strategy.
Following the ID. Polo, Volkswagen also opened orders for the ID. Cross, an electric counterpart to the T-Cross crossover, starting at €27,995. The coordinated rollout signals VW's commitment to covering multiple segments with competitively priced electric options.
The 25,000 early orders for the ID. Polo suggest strong consumer appetite, though Volkswagen faces intensifying pressure from Chinese manufacturers who have rapidly gained European market share through aggressive pricing.
