WeRide partners with GreenMobility to launch Denmark's first robotaxi service

Chinese autonomous driving company WeRide has partnered with Denmark's GreenMobility to launch the country's first commercial autonomous shared mobility project. The collaboration marks WeRide's first entry into the Nordic region and signals an accelerating push to commercialize Level 4 autonomy across Europe.

Under the agreement, WeRide will deploy its EU-compliant GXR Level 4 robotaxi in Denmark. The partners have targeted the first half of 2027 for the public launch of the service, though the timeline remains subject to regulatory approvals. To navigate the legal landscape, the companies will collaborate directly with the Danish Road Traffic Authority (Færdselsstyrelsen) and the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet).

Strategic Expansion

Denmark represents the sixth European market for WeRide, following previous entries into Spain, Slovakia, Switzerland, Belgium, and France. The company is currently pursuing an "asset-light" expansion strategy, which involves partnering with established local operators to utilize existing fleet management systems and user acquisition channels.

GreenMobility is a key component of this strategy. As the operator of the largest free-floating car-sharing network in the Nordic region, the firm manages a fleet of more than 1,500 electric vehicles. According to GreenMobility Group CEO Kasper Gjedsted, the company intends to transition the operating experience gained from millions of shared car trips into the realm of autonomous mobility.

This partnership highlights a broader strategic shift among Chinese AI firms. Intensifying competition within the Chinese domestic market has prompted several autonomous driving companies, including Baidu's Apollo Go and Pony AI, to expand their footprints into Europe to sustain growth.
