CelcomDigi and SPayLater Launch 0% Interest Smartphone Instalments
The Malaysian telco is waiving instalment fees for six months on selected 5G bundles via its online store.
Malaysian telecommunications giant CelcomDigi has partnered with Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) service SPayLater to offer 0% instalment fees on selected smartphone bundles. The initiative aims to make 5G device upgrades more accessible by removing the typical costs associated with short-term financing.
Under the agreement, eligible customers can access a six-month instalment plan with no added fees. This offer is exclusive to the Pakej MegaJimat programme and is available only through the CelcomDigi Online Store. To qualify, users must subscribe to specific CelcomDigi Postpaid 5G plans, specifically the 80, 100, 120, or 140 tiers. The promotion is scheduled to run through December 31, 2026.
Campaign Integration
This financing option is integrated into CelcomDigi's broader "Mega Gegar 20 Juta" campaign. That larger promotional event, which runs until September 30, 2026, features a prize pool valued at up to RM20 million. Notable rewards include home makeovers and a Proton e.MAS 7 electric vehicle.
According to CelcomDigi, the introduction of this payment method provides users with greater flexibility by eliminating the instalment charges usually applied to six-month payment plans.
Industry Implications
By leveraging the growing BNPL trend, CelcomDigi is lowering the financial barrier for consumers to transition to 5G-capable hardware. Waiving standard instalment fees removes a primary friction point for budget-conscious users, which the company expects will drive higher device adoption rates. Furthermore, by tying the offer to specific postpaid tiers, the telco is strategically incentivizing users to commit to higher-value monthly subscriptions.
Looking Ahead
While the 0% fee window provides a clear incentive for the latter half of 2026, the specific list of eligible smartphone models remains subject to availability through the online store. Market observers will be watching to see if this partnership leads to a permanent shift in how telcos bundle hardware with service plans in Malaysia, or if it remains a tactical move to boost 5G penetration during the Mega Gegar campaign period. This move signals a deeper integration between telecommunications and fintech to drive hardware cycles in a competitive Southeast Asian market.
