Social Engineering Theft Hits Kolkata NGO Office

An unidentified man stole multiple high-end mobile phones from the Sarba Shanti Ayog NGO office in central Kolkata on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. The theft occurred during business hours after the suspect used a social distraction tactic to gain access to employee workstations.
According to reports from BengalInfo and the Times of India, the incident took place between 3:25 pm and 4:00 pm at the NGO's office located at 48B, Dr Sundori Mohan Avenue. The suspect, described as a man approximately 30 years old, entered the first-floor premises and approached staff members individually. Roshni Mukherjee, an NGO executive, stated that the man claimed his mother wanted to meet the employees, a ruse that allowed him to move freely from desk to desk. While distracting the staff, he pocketed several devices, including a blue Realme Narzo and a black Samsung Galaxy M35. The theft was later captured on the office's CCTV footage.
