Bengaluru's GalaxEye Patents All-Weather Satellite Imaging Tech

Bengaluru-based space tech startup GalaxEye has secured a patent for its satellite imaging technology, marking a significant step in Earth observation. The company's hybrid sensing platform aims to eliminate traditional trade-offs between image clarity and environmental constraints.
At the center of the innovation is "SyncFused OptoSAR" technology. This system integrates data from both optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors on a single satellite platform to produce all-weather images of Earth. By fusing these two distinct data streams in real-time, GalaxEye can provide high-resolution imagery regardless of cloud cover or nighttime conditions.
The Technical Gap
Traditionally, the satellite imagery market has been split between two competing modalities. Optical sensors provide high-resolution, intuitive images but are rendered useless by clouds or the absence of sunlight. Conversely, SAR technology can penetrate clouds and operate in total darkness but often lacks the intuitive resolution of optical photography.
Incubated at IIT Madras, GalaxEye designed its platform to bridge this gap. The company is now moving toward deployment with "Mission Drishti," which features a multi-sensor OptoSAR satellite. To scale this capability, GalaxEye plans to deploy a constellation of 10 satellites by 2030, a move intended to achieve sub-daily coverage of the Earth's surface.
